JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (June 2026) – In celebration of South Africa’s National Youth Day, Midea, in collaboration with Manchester City and local NGO partner Diski Nine9, officially unveiled a newly refurbished community sports pitch at the Protea Glen Sports Centre in Soweto, Johannesburg. The initiative aims to provide local youth with a safe, inclusive space to play sports, develop vital life skills, and reach their full potential.

The vibrant launch event featured an exciting football and netball festival tournament, bringing together more than 150 local boys and girls alongside hundreds of community spectators.

As a proud partner in this meaningful initiative, Midea supported the launch and celebrated the community by donating a range of home appliances and goodie bags. These contributions are designed to directly enhance the facility's daily operations and uplift the lives of local residents.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Mr. Bright Yao, General Manager of Midea Africa, highlighted the brand's long-term vision:

"Partnering with Manchester City and Diski Nine9, we are proud to provide local youth with a safe space to grow and pursue their dreams. This pitch, along with our product donations, reflects Midea’s enduring commitment to uplifting African communities and making life better across the continent."

As Midea concludes its global partnership with Manchester City at the end of this month, the brand's deep-rooted dedication to the African market remains stronger than ever. Moving forward, Midea will continue to actively invest in local communities, seeking new opportunities to bring warmth, innovation, and care to homes across Africa.
