Following impactful programmes across Johannesburg, Lagos, and Rabat, Manchester City and Midea have now conclude their joint community initiative to Luanda and Nairobi, continuing Midea’s commitment to empowering young people through sport and education.
Midea and Manchester City joined forces to accomplish this meaningful initiative.
Empowering Next Generation Through Football and Community
The project focuses on creating supportive environments where young people can feel safe, included, and inspired. Using football as a platform, the programme brings young people together to build confidence, form friendships and develop skills that extend far beyond the pitch. The initiative aims not only to provide opportunities for play, but also to foster a sense of belonging and responsibility among participants.
Through guidance from coaches at City in the Community, Young Leaders in are taking part in interactive workshops and training sessions designed to nurture leadership, communication, and teamwork. These sessions encourage participants to reflect on their role within their communities and to recognise how they can contribute to creating positive, lasting change for those around them.
Johannesburg, South Africa
One Young Leader said "This program has helped me a lot in dealing with different types of people and also in dealing with different types of children.Since this program started I have seen a lot of children becoming what they wanted to be. I've seen them changing, becoming better players, becoming better people around the community."
Lagos, Nigeria
Iloanya, a Young Leader from Lagos, said: “Being a Young Leader is about more than football, it’s about learning how to guide others, support young people, and create a positive space for everyone to grow.”
Rabat, Morocco

Luanda, Angola
In Luanda, the programme is creating lasting impact by empowering local youth with the tools and support they need to thrive.
Nairobi, Kenya
Supported by Tackle Africa, an organisation dedicated to empowering female Young Leaders in local communities through the power of football to tackle key social challenges.
Midea Support Throughout The Journey
Alongside the training, Midea has supported the initiative by giving essential appliances to local community spaces. These contributions help ensure that facilities used by young people are comfortable, functional, and welcoming, strengthening them as hubs where learning, connection, and development can flourish. By investing in these environments, the programme supports not just individuals, but the wider community that surrounds them. Through these efforts, Midea continues to build not only better spaces, but a stronger, more connected community, embodying the brand’s promise of quality and care in every corner it touches.
Together, Manchester City and Midea’s work in Africa demonstrates how sport, mentorship, and community investment can combine to open doors for young people, helping them to build safer spaces, stronger connections, and brighter futures.
