Midea planted 1,000 corals & 500kg of seaweed on Tidung Island, Jakarta.

Jakarta, May 17, 2025– As part of the celebration of Midea's 15th anniversary in Indonesia, Midea Electronics Indonesia held an environmental conservation activity titled Midea Blue Wave, which took place on Saturday, May 17, 2025, on Tidung Kecil Island, Jakarta. This event was attended by 70 Midea employees and collaborated with the Jakarta Mangrove Environmental Care Community.

In this activity, Midea planted 1,000 corals and 500 kilograms of seaweed in the coastal area of Tidung Kecil Island. This step is part of the company's commitment to supporting the Indonesian government's target of achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2060 or sooner.

“We are very grateful for the trust of the Indonesian people for the past 15 years. As a provider of household electronic equipment, Midea is not only committed to providing quality products, but also actively supports sustainable environmental conservation programs. This Midea Blue Wave activity reflects our determination to continue contributing to global efforts to combat climate change,” said Jack Ding, President Director of Midea Electronics Indonesia, at the Midea Blue Wave event in Jakarta on Saturday, May 17, 2025.

Seaweed planting is also a form of Midea's support for the empowerment of local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The seaweed harvest can later be processed by the community into various products, from food to raw materials for the beauty industry.

“Seaweed has extraordinary economic potential for coastal communities. Through this program, we hope to encourage local economic independence while preserving the ocean. This is a small but meaningful step towards a greener and more inclusive future,” said Astri Purnamasari, Head of HR Department Midea Electronics Indonesia.

As a form of appreciation for the active participation of the residents of Tidung Kecil Island, Midea also distributed donations of electronic equipment to support the daily activities of the local community.

“We want to make a real contribution to the residents of Tidung Kecil Island who have supported the success of this event. We hope that this electronic equipment donation can help residents' activities and become part of a long-term collaboration,” added Michael Adisuhanto, Deputy General Manager of Midea Electronics Indonesia.

Through Midea Blue Wave, Midea emphasizes that a sustainable business is a business that cares about the environment and community. This activity symbolizes a real step towards a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future, in line with the vision of Indonesia and the world.

Midea believes that sustainability is not only a responsibility, but also the future of the industry. Through initiatives such as Midea Blue Wave, the company strives to implement business practices that are in line with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles and support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Indonesia.

As an archipelagic country with the second-longest coastline in the world, Indonesia has an important role in addressing global climate change. The Indonesian government has set an ambitious target to achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2060 or sooner, through a clean energy transition, coastal ecosystem conservation, and strengthening the role of the private sector in sustainable development.

In addition to supporting the restoration of marine ecosystems, seaweed planting is also part of efforts to empower the economy of coastal communities, especially MSMEs. The planted seaweed can be utilized by the community to be processed into various food products or basic materials for the beauty and health industry.
